I’ve been painting portraits in pastel and charcoal for over 30 years and have produced thousands of commissions for happy and satisfied clients all over the world. I’ve always had this talent, although I studied with private instructors to hone my skills. My prices have always been affordable because I do not work through a gallery. I work exclusively from reference photography which allows you to choose the pose and expression. With both artist and client agreeing on the photo to be used, 95% of the problems usually associated with portraiture are solved. Using photos allows you to bring old, fading photos back to life and enlarge small, hard-to-see photos. I can work with cracked and damaged photos, too, provided I can see the face. One of the reasons I work from photo reference is that many of my commissions are loved ones who’ve passed on, whose relatives want something more than a small black and white photo.
