My medium of choice is pastel on acid-free, rag museum board. Many people do not know what pastel is, or have a misconception that it is “just chalk.”  Actually, pastel is one of the purest art forms there is. It consists of pigment, which is the dried, powdered, pure color from which all paint is made (including oil paint), and a mild binder, just enough to form the colors into sticks that can be handled. Some chalk is added to light tints and black is added to darker shades. Because it has no oil in it, it will never crack, peel, or yellow, and because I use only professional quality colors with the highest percentage of pure pigment, it will not fade. Properly framed and cared for, the portrait will last for generations.
